Newtown Creek Alliance Volunteer Day 2024

Colossal’s commitment to community appears at every level of our business. It means providing a pathway for creative careers through our paint apprenticeship program. It means designing a more beautiful urban landscape through the historic craft of sign painting and muraling. And at least once a year, it means putting our brushes down and laptops away and devoting our energy to volunteer work. 

This year, we looked to our own backyard for inspiration. Our New York paint shop rests on the shores of the Newtown Creek — the winding waterway suffering from centuries of industry and pollution. We’ve partnered with Newtown Creek Alliance (NCA) for years now with the express intention of changing that. The organization’s mission to restore and protect this vital part of New York’s natural environment is close to our hearts, and we decided to lend them a hand. 

For a full workday, the determination and passion usually seen at our walls was dedicated to clearing our local landscape of invasive plants, and planting native plants and helpful pollinators to the rooftop of our shop. The day was anchored by a presentation from NCA to educate our team on how to prioritize sustainability and environmentalism right here at home.
