Over the years, Gucci has trusted Colossal Media with delivering hand-painted designs on several walls, storefronts, and pop-ups around the country. Our latest execution brings vibrant color and character to this Detroit exterior facade.
In honor of Gucci’s ongoing community engagement in Detroit, Gucci Changemakers partnered with local non-profit, Design Core and invited Detroit-based artists to submit original artworks for an opportunity to be featured on the Gucci Art Wall in Detroit.
Local artist Onzie D. Norman was chosen by the selection committee for his piece “Botanical City.” The mural celebrates the vibrancy and creativity of Detroit. Colossal replicated the artwork in time for Detroit’s Month of Design in September.
In the Artist’s Words
This artwork is about growth and unity, I use a botanical metaphor to show Detroit growing out of its past, living in the present, and moving into its future. In “Botanical City” the roots of the plants are the past, the stem is the present and the flowers represent moving into the future. Everything is floating in the air to represent limitless possibilities. — Onzie D. Norman
