Colossal was commissioned by real estate developer Alchemy Properties to paint two murals on the walls of Griffin Court Condominium at 800 10th Avenue. The original art was painted on canvas by Corinne Ulmann, a local Brooklyn artist, who won a competition that Alchemy ran on curbed.com calling for proposals that would transform the vertical landscape of the new residential building. The winning art proposed two images – one of golden leafed Fall trees and the other, their reflections in the shade.
Colossal closely collaborated with the artist to ensure the canvas paintings would perfectly transfer to the 4,600 square feet and 1,800 square feet adjacent walls. During the onsite production, Colossal created a video that included live footage, interviews and a time-lapse of the larger wall. The video will live online as a marketing and press tool. And, the finished painted forest on 10th Avenue will live on for many years, adding a touch of beauty and art to the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
